Debbie Jenkinson

I trained as a classical animator in Ballyfermot, leaving in 1998 for the USA where I worked for four years in a small animation studio, as a background and character designer. I directed two short animated films, one funded by the Irish Film Board. Since my return in 2004, I’ve provided illustrations for Barnstorm Theatre Company, the Irish Daily Mail and Scoilnet, among others. I took part in a Graphic Novel residency in Florida in 2010, and since then have been self-publishing comics, alongside illustration work. These include Remorse, listed as runner-up on Comicosity’s Best of 2015, The Yellow Planet and others. I am co-founder of The Comics Lab, a monthly meet-up that explores sequential story-telling, which now runs alongside DECAF, a quarterly small press fair. With my comics friends in Illustrators Ireland, I perform live comic readings, most recently for the Red Line Book Festival October 2017.
