Illustrators Ireland is a non-profit organisation that supports the development of Illustration in Ireland by showcasing the work of our members and fostering links with similar organisations at home and abroad. As a professional organisation we aim to raise the profile of Irish illustration as a dynamic and cutting edge art form, as well as promoting the work and skills of our individual members.

Members

Illustrators Ireland’s membership is a mix of established, high profile illustrators, and up-and-coming talent, producing work for fields as diverse as editorial, advertising, animation, storyboards, packaging, street art, graphic novels and childrens’ books, as well as their own personal projects.

The quality of members work has been recognised by awards both in Ireland and on the world stage, including from the AOI (UK), Communication Arts, 3x3 and Creative Quarterly, ICAD, CILIP, the Society of News Design and the Society of Illustrators (US).

Phil McDarby

Phil has been drawing and painting fantasy and sci-fi characters and environments for most of his life, and made the jump from traditional to digital around 1998. At the heart of his work is a desire to capture a sense of magic and wonder – that feeling of child-like excitement and discovery that we can lose touch with as adults.

He uses a number of methods to create his imagery, from 2D painting using a Wacom tablet to 3D modelling in Maya, Bryce and 3DStudio Max, from digital sculpting in zBrush to matte work using his own photography as textures in his scenes.

Over the years he has worked across a huge variety of media – from branding and website design to editorial caricature work and high-end advertising.

He now works as an Art Director in Brown Bag Films, having spent three years working as Matte Painter on the multi-Emmy winning series Peter Rabbit.
