Alé Mercado at Ballyfermot

I've been invited to give a talk to the illustration students at Ballyfermot College of Further Education

This is the second time I was asked to give a talk there. I was asked to give some images to promote the event. As with the previous time I decided to design a poster as it gives me the opportunity of working to complete freedom.
I love westerns and I like to show that love every time I am given a chance. For this one, I wanted to replicate the look and feel of the posters of spaghetti westerns. Often very badly produced but always representing really well the gritty atmosphere of the film.
I did create some textures out of monoprints and did a quick sketch that I ended up inking in three colours to have a nice tonal range. Once all those elements were ready, I scanned them in and manipulated them digitally to make sure the poster looked tight enough, specially in the colour section.

Finally I added the type taking as a reference a few original spaghetti poster… et voilá.
Hope you like it. The talk is taking place next Thursday 9th February at Ballyfermot College of Further Education
