Illustrators Ireland member Joven Kerekes brought his sketchbook to the National Museum of Natural History – commonly known as the Dead Zoo. A fabulous place to go drawing – or just looking – here in Dublin, Ireland.

I like to assume that this little nervous-looking guy is nervous because his feet don't sit flat on the ground any more. I suppose they originally did when he was first embalmed but that was a long time ago and he's had plenty of time to watch his feet slowly curl. Poor guy.

Salaryman monkey.

This orangutan mother is rather freaky looking in person. Perhaps she looked better when she was first stuffed or maybe she was just a freaky looking ape to start with. Either way she reminds me of one of those Jack Kirby monsters that Marvel used to publish before they hit on superheros.

Here she is again in an expressionist version.
