Sally is an award winning illustrator based in Laois, Ireland. Her illustrations help commissioners, publishers and businesses that require timeless, bespoke artwork and celebrate creative ingenuity. Sally is particularly interested in utilising her unique, visual language to illustrate stories and ideas about positive social and environmental themes.
In 2020, Sally graduated with an MA in Children’s Book Illustration from the Cambridge School of Art. She began her professional career as an artist by winning the Student of the Year V&A Illustration Awards 2020 in addition to being shortlisted for the Sebastian Walker Prize. She was also listed as one of the “21 Artists to Watch” by the Artists & Illustrator’s Magazine. Artwork from her winning entry was used for the cover of Alexander Bett’s book “The Wealth of Refugees: How Displaced People Can Build Economies” (Oxford University Press). Sally has since worked on a number of high-profile commissions with The Folio Society, including Crooked House by Agatha Christie (2021), Venetia (2021), Arabella (2022) and Frederica (2023) by Georgette Heyer. Her cover for Crooked House was shortlisted for the 2022 V&A Illustration Awards.
Sally has exhibited artwork at the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. Her illustrative work also featured in several academic books about Illustration, including Professor Martin Salisbury’s book “Drawing for Illustration” in a section titled “Sally Dunne: sketchbooks and me” (Thames and Hudson, 2022).
